Why Ski Crans Montana?

The resort is made up of three villages; Crans Sur Sierre, Montana and Aminona. Crans is considered to be an extremely upmarket area, whereas Montana is quieter and more family focused and Aminona is home to the snow park. Surprisingly the majority of winter guests are not here to enjoy the outstanding slopes but to take part in the many other activities the resort has to offer, including cross country skiing, ski touring, snow shoeing, ice skating and curling. The resort is also host to numerous popular events throughout the year and is home to a championship 18 - hole golf course. Crans Montana has over 250 boutiques for shopping and over 50 restaurants, there are also 63km of walking paths to provide relaxation in the mountains amid absolutely stunning scenery.

Skiing in Crans Montana

Crans Montana is predominantly south facing and has one of the most dazzling 360 degree panoramic views of the Alps, including Mont Blanc and the mighty Matterhorn. Despite being south facing, the ski area from the Glacier Plaine Morte at 3000m down to village level at 1500m, is generally high enough to maintain steady snow conditions and is cold enough for snow cannons if necessary. The slopes are relatively quiet and queuing for 27 ski lifts is rare apart from during exceptionally busy periods. In the area of Aminona there is an impressive 50,000m2 snow park, which offers boarder cross, quarter pipes, big air, rails and its own bar in the middle of the park. Every Friday night from 19:00 – 22:00hrs you can take part in night skiing on 4km of floodlit pistes.

In good snow conditions there are plenty of challenging off piste runs for expert skiers to enjoy and the marked runs are also enjoyable and good for working on technique. However the resort is better suited to intermediate skiers with its numerous red runs and only one notably simple black run. Le Signal area is ideal for beginners, with its wide uncrowded pistes you can learn to ski or board at your own pace without disruption. There are also a good number of restaurants in this area making it ideal for families. To top it off there is 35km of cross country skiing on trails leading through picturesque forests and providing outstanding views.
