Why Ski Montgenevre?

This is a small  picturesque mountain village which has recently reached its centurion for winter sports. Its location ensures plenty of sunshine but still maintaining its winter wonderland landscape. The village recently detoured the cross border road to run around the village, returning it to its peaceful pre car atmosphere.

Montgenevre has two dozen bars and restaurants which help add to its lively reputation, along with a club for late night entertainment. A floodlit ice rink, cinema and snowmobile excursions which includes an intimate meal in a mountain restaurant, add to the evening activities. During the summer you will be spoilt for choice with an 18 hole golf course (9 in France and 9 in Italy), a driving range and 6 tennis courts. The village has a swimming pool or you can go kayaking or rafting if you feel more vigorous. There is an abundance of walking, mountain biking, horse riding and hiking trails. There is also canyoning, climbing, zip wires and fishing. If that isn’t enough, Montgenevre’s event calendar has a snow theatre and a jazz & Dance festival to name but a few.

Skiing in Montgenevre

At an altitude of 1850m, the resort sits perfectly located to provide opportunity to ‘ski from your door’. The pistes offer 100km of downhill skiing, all served by 38 lifts. The highest lift reaches 2700m and together they can transport 28,760 people per hour. The maximum vertical drop on the resort is 850m and with some of the pistes topping 2500m, skiing and snowboarding is guaranteed throughout the season. The 8 snow cannons help the lower altitude runs if required meaning that even the slopes at village level are consistant with coverage.  The resort is western part of the ‘milky way’ ski area (the only French resort in it) which is home to 598 individual pistes altogether. You can purchase a pass which will also allow you to ski the other 4 resorts which make up the milky way. The area caters best for intermediate skiers who can enjoy the huge variety of runs both above the tree tops and weaving down through the wooded areas. For beginners there are gentle nursery slopes to ease them into their skiing experience. Experts may need to search the area to really challenge themselves, however the resort does have 9 runs at expert level. There is 28km of cross country runs available and for snowboarders a dedicated park, separate from the other terrain providing maximum air space to attempt a wide range of acrobatics.

Location and Access

On the Italian border in south east France, Montgenevre is situated in the south of the French alps. The accommodation at the resort ranges from traditionally rustic to redeveloped and modern. You can expect swimming pools, spa facilities and wellness centres in some case, but also simple, comfortable surroundings and humble character in others.
